A season, not a day
Christmas is really a season. Advent counts down the four Sundays before 25 December, and the twelve days of Christmas run on to Epiphany on 6 January, when the Magi are said to have reached Bethlehem. Much of what we now call a traditional Christmas, from the decorated tree to printed cards, took shape in the 1800s, helped along by Charles Dickens and A Christmas Carol in 1843.
What you'll be looking for
The main Christmas pack has 20 puzzles and covers a lot more than presents. The nativity is in there (SHEPHERD, STABLE, MAGI, MYRRH, CRECHE), and so are Santa's reindeer, with DASHER and RUDOLPH on the list. So is the food: GOOSE, PLUM, TRIFLE and FRUITCAKE. A few puzzles take in the other winter holidays too, with words like MENORAH and KWANZAA, which helps in a mixed classroom.
Holiday play ideas
