The Word Search App (thewordsearchapp.com) is a free browser word search game with thousands of themed puzzles, a daily challenge, stars, XP, and optional sign-in to save progress. It runs entirely in your browser — no download, no install — and is built to load fast on phones, tablets, and older laptops alike.
The game started in 2018 as a small collection of word lists for friends and family, and has grown into a catalog of 1,700+ themed packs covering animals, food, sports, science, holidays, literature, geography, and more. Every pack includes four difficulty levels — Quick (10 words, easy), Easy (12 words, easy), Tough (15 words, hard), and Champ (15 words, expert) — so a 7-year-old and a 70-year-old can find the right challenge.
You can play as a guest, or link Google or Facebook so coins, unlocks, and streaks stay with your account across devices. Optional coin packs and an ad-free upgrade are available for players who want them — the core game stays free to play online, with no signup required.
Each puzzle is generated by a deterministic grid-placement algorithm that takes a curated word list and a difficulty tier and produces a 15×15 letter grid where every word can be found horizontally, vertically, or diagonally (forward or reversed). We never use AI to generate the word list itself — every theme is hand-curated by our editorial team and reviewed for accuracy (no false capitals, no proper nouns that aren't real places, no duplicate entries within a single pack). AI is used to suggest themed words for the city welcome puzzles on a per-visitor basis, but those go through the same placement algorithm and the same human review pipeline before they ship to other players.
