Cambridge word list, defined
- PORTER /ˈpɔːtər/ · noun, verb
- A person who carries heavy loads, especially in a hotel or railway station. To serve or supply (a person or place) with something, especially food or drink. Related: carrier, luggage handler, server, waiter.
- CENTRAL /sɛnˈtrəl/ · adjective
- Located in the middle of something, or most important or influential. Central heating is a system that provides warmth to a building. Related: middle, main, principal, key.
- ALEWIFE /ˈeɪlwaɪf/ · noun
- The alewife is a type of small, silvery fish that migrates between fresh and saltwater. It is a member of the herring family. Related: river herring, shad, herring, sawfish.
- FLOUR /flaʊər/ · noun
- A powder made from grinding grain, used in cooking and baking. Related: meal, powder, dough, mixture.
